The Singleton 12 Year Old from Dufftown is matured for a dozen years primarily in American oak casks with a smaller proportion of European oak, giving it a mellow but layered character. On the nose it opens with toasted hazelnuts, polished wood, brown sugar and rich fruit—think baked apples, stewed pear and sweet dates. The palate continues this theme with smooth maltiness, creamy toffee, soft vanilla and a hint of espresso coffee, balanced by fresh orchard fruit and a gentle touch of oak spice. The finish is medium to long: elegantly drying and crisp, with lingering nutty sweetness, fruit, and a warming aftertaste. It’s not the boldest or most complex whisky in the Singleton line, but its balancing of sweetness, fruit, malt and oak makes it a genuinely comforting dram for many whisky lovers.
